The Llangollen Railway line originally opened in the 1860s and expanded quickly to its full length. The railway experienced a decline in the 1960s and closed until its revival in 1972. The rebuilding of the railway line took place in stages until 1996. Today, the railway line is primarily volunteer operated and tours through the Dee Valley passing many sites along the way. Llangollen's trains are steam operated.
